April 2006 Recreation Events
CITY OF MERIDEN EVENTS
SPRING VACATION WEEK CAMP
        Students in grades 1-5 are invited to add some excitement to the vacation week of April 17th-21st!  The program will meet from 9:15AM-3:00PM at Israel Putnam School, and feature games, contests, arts & crafts, videos, and field trips.  Interested participants can register at the Parks & Recreation office beginning Monday, April 3rd.  The cost is $40.00 for the week.  Please register soon, as there are only 40 openings available for the program.

FIRST TEE GOLF LESSONS
        The First Tee of Hartford will be conducting golf lessons for youths ages 10-16.  Lessons will be held at Hunter Golf Course on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:20PM during the period of April 26th – June 7th.   Interested participants can register at the Parks & Recreation office beginning Monday, April 3rd.  The cost is $5.00 for the program.  Please register soon, as there are only 10 openings available for the program.
 
PITCH, HIT, & RUN COMPETITION
        Youths ages 7-14 can test their baseball skills at the local Meriden competition of the national Pepsi Pitch, Hit, & Run program held on Saturday, April 8th at Ceppa Field.  Registration will be from 10:00-10:15AM and the competition follows at 10:30AM.  Participants will receive refreshments and winners will receive ribbons & qualify for the sectional championship.

2006 EASTER EGG HUNT PRESENTED BY THOMPSON CANDY
        The Easter Bunny will be at the Hubbard Park bandshell on Saturday, April 15th to give children an early start to their egg collecting.  The following indicates age group participation times:

        Children are asked to please bring a basket or bag.  The event will be held rain or shine.  Adult assistance will only be permitted in the first age group.
       
MERIDEN SKATEPARK
        The Meriden Skatepark, located on the corner of Coe Avenue & Hamilton Street, will open for the 2006 season on Wednesday, April 19th, weather permitting.  The facility’s hours of operation will be as follows:
                School Days                             2:00PM-Dusk
                Non-School Days                 11:00AM-Dusk
        The skatepark will not open during the weekend of April 28th-30th .

SUMMER ACTIVITIES INFORMATION & REGISTRATION
        Information on the 2006 Summer Teen & Youth Playground Programs will be available at the Parks & Recreation office beginning Monday, April 17th.  Registration for the three Meriden Nature Camp sessions in August will also begin on this date.

PARADE REMINDERS
        The 19th Annual “Daffodils on Parade” will take place on Saturday, April 29th and the 2006 Meriden Bicentennial Parade will take place on Saturday, June 17th.    Groups, clubs, schools, businesses, or individuals wishing to march are asked to call the Recreation Division office at 630-4259 for entry forms.  Creative participation is always welcome!

INDOOR PUBLIC SWIM PROGRAM
The 2005-2006 Indoor Public Swim Program takes place at the Maloney HS pool at the following days & times: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30-7:45PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 12:00-3:45PM.  Daily updates are available on Recreation Activity Line(630-4279).  
All interested participants must possess a valid 2006 pool pass.  Available for purchase at the Parks & Recreation office, passes cost $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children ages 17 & under.  Potential recipients must come to the office in-person and bring proof of Meriden residency to receive a pass.

28TH ANNUAL MERIDEN DAFFODIL FESTIVAL
        The 28th Annual Meriden Daffodil Festival will take place on Saturday, April 29th from 10:00AM-9:00PM and on Sunday, April 30th from 10:00AM-5:00PM at Hubbard Park.  The festival features amusement rides, continuous musical entertainment, a parade, a craft fair, fireworks, a road race, special events, demonstrations, over 30 different food vendors, and 600,000 daffodils!  Some of the prominent pre-festival & festival events include:
